Tuesday Vendors Return

With the holidays around the corner, the Crescent City Farmers market is the place to stock up on all of your local produce and food needs! With the return of so many of our beloved farmers and food producers, the markets are looking full and bountiful. Head over to our Tuesday Uptown Market to stock your fridges with sweet potatoes from Indians Springs Farmers Cooperative for your pies and casseroles, butternut squash from Joe Fekete Family Farm for a butternut and pecan casserole, and collards, mustard or turnip greens from Monica’s Okra World for your braised greens dishes. Looking for mushrooms for your homemade green bean casserole? You can find lots of different mushrooms from Screaming Oaks Mushrooms or Mycelium Express. Add some green to the table with a fresh side salad using local hydroponic lettuce from Brickwall Farms! Don’t forget seafood from Pete and Clara’s or Anna Marie Seafood for all your seafood cornbread dressing and stuffing needs. Looking for a tasty sweet treat while you shop? Check out some of our new additions to Tuesday Uptown Market, like Passion Flour Baked Goods serving a plethora of unique pastries and drinks, such as satsuma basil danishes or a cup of mulled cider.

Daylight Savings at the Greenway

Daylight savings ended this past Sunday, meaning shorter days and earlier sunsets. While it was fun to enjoy an extra hour of sleep, daylight savings can also mean bouts of depression, weariness, and feelings of loneliness for many of us as our sunny hours decrease. Trends show that people battle these symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder by eating more carbs and sleeping more due to the disruption of our internal clock--our circadian rhythm. Keeping active during the early evening, even when it’s chilly and it looks like it’s time for bed, is a great way to keep you and your brain from feeling this fatigue. CCFM’s Thursday market at the Greenway is held from 3pm to 7pm and is an easy way to get in some fun outside time! Come alone, with your family, or meet a friend--there is lots of space to sit and chat, and the beautiful Iris of Memory starts to glow softly when the sun begins to set. Thursday is a great market, boasting many purveyors of delicious and unique products such as hand-picked crab claw meat, paella, homemade Italian sodas, party bread, goat milk soap, winter citrus, and a wide variety of produce. Treat yourself to the goodies offered and make this winter season one filled with yummy memories.

Vendor of the Week:

BrickWall Farms

We’re excited to warmly welcome BrickWall Farms back to our markets this fall! BrickWall Farms has been bringing hydroponic lettuce, herbs, and spices to the Crescent City Farmers Market for more than eight years now! Owned and operated by Brian Bricker, BrickWall Farms has been running as a hydroponic farm since 2011. What is hydroponic farming you may ask? Hydroponic farming is a growing technique that doesn't involve soil or sunlight and instead relies on nutrient rich water. Hydroponic farming has increasingly become a popular means of growing food as this practice uses far less space and resources compared to traditional farming practices. Brian is currently growing arugula, basil, catnip, bok choy, and 11 different types of lettuces! Come on by our markets to try out BrickWall Farm’s fresh selection of lettuces that will make the perfect addition to your salads, sandwiches, and soups.
