Festivus was a five-year experiment in producing a sustainable, fair-trade holiday craft market that succeeded in becoming a cultural highpoint for the New Orleans region. Festivus also raised awareness of social justice principles such as living wage environmental product sourcing and recycling/reuse. It also championed local skills and services and was the inspiration for a number of open-air artist markets that have since blossomed in the region.
